Anishinabek News


The Local News Map

Anishinabek News is a community newspaper that was founded in 1988 to cover local news for the Anishinabek Nation. The website was launched on April 16, 2013 to provide more timely news. After the March 2014 issue, the newspaper stopped publishing its monthly print edition. Anishinabek News began publishing a free quarterly print edition beginning with the Summer 2017 issue.

While reorganizing its weekly newspaper portfolio, Transcontinental Inc. ceased publication of 20 Quebec titles, including this community newspaper. Most of the newspapers were integrated with other Transcontinental publications in the same regions. This change came after the Competition Bureau and Transcontinental concluded a consent agreement on 1 June 2014 whereby the company had to sell 33 of its recently acquired weekly newspapers that were published in regions that already had a number of other weekly newspapers.
